Description/Notes
Phosphene tells the urban fantasy story of two artists connecting at a party. They both suffer from magical symptoms as they take drugs. Bernardo, a homeless musician, is addicted to cocaine and is able to materialize fire, which he stares into for hours at a time. Susan, a former painter turned office worker, has social anxieties and binges on her prescription drugs, eventually being able to read minds. Bernardo also meets with his drug dealer and friend, the businesswoman Whit. Susan is surrounded by fellow office workers, Kim, Sam, and Miranda, the office supervisor and source of Susan’s anxieties at work. Phosphene is an attempt at trying to scope in on an intersection of art therapy, addiction, 90s nerd aesthetics and culture, and chill hop/vaporwave vibes.
