‘Too Much of a Good Thing’ (A rotoscoped/animated production)
Thank you for your interest in ‘Too Much of a Good Thing’ this project is an animated short film with the goal of being a participant in the 2022 CineWorld Film Festival. My name is David Meiers, and I am the Community Outreach and Marketing Director for SRQ Film Society. I am also an animator, filmmaker, and artist. ‘Too Much of a Good Thing’ was a winner of a local youth script writing contest, and I am assembling a team of artists to bring this short film to life.
Currently are close to fully casting the main roles of this film and have a few more left to go. The project will be coordinated fully as remote/distance work as this is for animation reference. This is set up to be solely animation reference, so the roles will be more in the lines of choreography. We will provide the scenes and direction, and then ask you to act out the scenes with multiple takes. We will be paying close attention to wardrobe choice, style, secondary action, expression, movement, body language, hip placement, and your unique take on the particular scene. We need your own perspective so that the characters have different lives of their own.
The story is a quirky comedy about a boy just out of college that meets a mysterious gentleman. They talk briefly about psychology, and things take a dark turn. He gives him a phone app designed to send a text message that will magically make the person receiving them, do whatever the message says. The only catch is that only one text can be sent, and once the spell is cast, it cannot be reversed. Skeptical, he takes the app and tries to reverse engineer it to see if there is any validity to it. He inadvertently destroys a few relationships by making different characters fall head over heels in love, not knowing it cannot be reversed. Things take a turn for the worse as these spells are strong, making to person consumed by it.
For example, he tests it on his friend making her fall in love with her roommate, or the antagonist using it on his lab partner to fall in love with the first person she sees, thus making her run off with him, and abandoning her work.
The antagonist takes control of the app and offers to reverse the spells, if, and only if Michael, sells his soul to his company and work for him for all eternity. It becomes a race against the clock as Michael’s friends and co-workers try to find a way to reverse the app’s effects before it is too late.
This project is solely remote paid work, we have a budget, and all scenes are meant for reference purposes only, meaning the cartoon will resemble you but it will be a cartoon, and all acting will be exaggerated for cartoon purposes. This gives you more control over the scene and content. We do require a self-tape audition to see how you handle the scene, wardrobe, filming environment, and expressions. We are focusing on the spells for the audition process, each character is changed in some way, either by the antagonist, or by mistake, and these revolve around a love spell, or changing personalities.
