MELODREAM TMC:

Samaria, the short film, will be Award-winning writer-director Kiel Adrian Scott's NYU Graduate Film thesis.

Samaria Synopsis: In the wake of a devastating hurricane, Rose, a young white-collar worker, works tirelessly to put back together the pieces of her broken life. Having lost everything in the storm, Rose, now homeless, must hide the depths of her poverty from those she works for and her employment from those she lives with, in her daily struggle to survive.


Production will take place in New York City, including its outer boroughs, August 6-14, 2014. All background performers will be needed for one (1) day only.

The production will be Union/Non Union. Producers will be using the SAG Student Film agreement, which allows the use of SAG and Non SAG performers. For all performers, union or non-union, the production will cover transportation and provide meals
All background actors for the entirety of the film will be needed for only one day. The following dates reflect the possible shoot days.

GROUPS

[Bus Passengers] (16 people) – Males and females of various ages and ethnic backgrounds. The bus should feel multicultural, like a microcosm of the world. These Bus Passengers will be riding the bus with the main character who is begging for change. Possible shooting dates: August 10-13, 2014


[Homeless Shelter Dining Hall Staff] (2 people) – African American or Hispanic females serving dinner to the shelters homeless women and children. Possible shooting dates: August 8-10, 2014

[Homeless Shelter Staff] (3 people) - Males and females of various ages and ethnic backgrounds. These are staff members, some of which are volunteers, running a women’s homeless shelter after a major hurricane has left many homeless. Possible shooting dates: August 8-10, 2014

[Homeless Women] (25 people) - Females of various ages and racial backgrounds. These character’s are living in a homeless shelter. Some of these women have been homeless for a long time. Many others are more recently homeless after losing their homes in a devastating hurricane. Possible shooting dates: August 8-10, 2014.

[Homeless Children] (5 people) - Male and female children of various ethnic backgrounds between the ages of five (5) and ten (10) years old. These are the children of the several of the women living in the homeless shelter. (Special Note: If these the actual children of 3 or 4 of the women cast as Homeless Women that would be great.) Possible shooting dates: August 8-10, 2014

[Restaurant Patrons] (8 people) – 30s to 50s, mostly Caucasian, male and female, upper middle class restaurant patrons. Possible shooting dates: August 6-8, 2014

[Supermarket Customers] (10 people) – Males and females, various ethnicities but predominately African American and Hispanic supermarket customers, living in a poor neighborhood. Possible shooting dates: August 9-11, 2014
FEATURED BACKGROUND ACTORS

[Janitor] - Late 50s to 60s - Older, small or frail, Hispanic man. The Janitor helps Rose, the main character, to hide her homelessness from her coworkers by hiding her suitcases and personal belongings for her everyday. Possible shooting dates: August 7-9, 2014

[Mother] – Late 40s to early 60s, Caucasian female. The mother rides the bus with her adult daughter, consoling her. (Special Note: If the Mother and Daughter were actually related that would be amazing.) Possible shooting dates: August 10-13, 2014

[Daughter] – 20s to early 30s, Caucasian Female being consoled by her mother as they ride together on the bus. (Special Note: If the Mother and Daughter were actually related that would be amazing.) Possible shooting dates: August 10-13, 2014
[Woman on Bus] - Mid 50s to early 60s, any ethnicity, female, bus passenger who Rose tries to lean on for comfort while riding the bus. Possible shooting dates: August 11-13, 2014

[Man on Bus] - Mid 50s to early 60s, any ethnicity, male, bus passenger who Rose tries to lean on for comfort while riding the bus. Possible shooting dates: August 11-13, 2014
