The short film “The Yard” are looking for 4 actors/actresses. The story investigates the
nature of knowledge and understanding when two drivers pick up a couple of hitchhikers that
claim to have been in a car crash. But as they all drive towards the city, something seems
“off” with the two hitchhikers.

The project is produced by students at University of Southern California, and is a non-profit international production with crew from all across the world, including United States, Colombia, Taiwan, Sweden, Vietnam and the Middle-East.

Principal photography is March 25-27th.

What we are looking for:

Lauren (Female, 30+):
Born and raised in a small town in Central Valley, Lauren embraced the Lord early in her
childhood and later decided to become a missionary. Although her mission is to spread the
words of church, she does not force them upon anyone. More than anything, her goal is to
share the love and understanding that comes with hope and faith. She has never turned her
back on anyone in need of hope, and she never will.

Mendez (Male, 40+):
No one knows anything about this man’s origins. He entered the world just as mysteriously
as he probably will leave it. He’s apathetic, calm and goal-oriented. Like a machine, he
focuses on one thing at a time, and he got no interest in other people whatsoever. However,
this becomes an issue when he also has to win the trust of the man who picked him up.

Kemper (Male, 40+):
A middle-aged meteorologist from Maricopa, California. Although his heart is in the right
place, he does not care for opinions, speculations or beliefs. For him, life is all about facts,
rational thinking and skepticism. He wants to understand the world, not people. He puts his
trust in objectivity instead of subjectivity. But even though it seems more reliable, it causes
issues when he picks up a hitchhiker who doesn’t care for the reality.

Jared (Male, 24+):
Although this young man from Taft Heights never was diagnosed with any mental disability,
Jared has struggled through his entire life – both socially and academically. He still lives with
his parents and has had the same job at a gas station since he was a teenager. For him, life
is not easy, but it is as good as it can be for someone in his shoes. But things will never be
the same after he leaves his hometown for the first time.

Because it is a non-profit project with mainly students working on it, we will unfortunately not
be able to offer any payment. However, we will do everything in our power to make the
experience as rewarding and pleasing as possible. We will provide you with crafty, coffee
and a copy of the finished film. We also offer driving service if you prefer us picking you up
rather than you getting to the set on your own.
