2. SIDES

James and a young girl, Aisha, sit across from each other. He
reads a book while she fidgets in a chair across from him.

AISHA
Now?

JAMES
Not, yet.

AISHA
When?

JAMES
When I say. And not a moment
sooner.

She starts to stand up. His eyes immediately dart toward her.
She freezes, then returns to her seat.

AISHA
I said I was sorry.

JAMES
And I heard you.

AISHA
It was just a stupid vase.

JAMES
A stupid vase that belonged to your
grandmother.

AISHA
That was Gamma’s?

JAMES
Mmm-hmm. She actually made that.

AISHA
I didn’t know that. Did she make
other stuff?

JAMES
Oh, tons. I lost count of all the
things she made over the years. She
was an amazing woman. I wish you
two could have spent time together.
She would have loved your drawings.

AISHA
I’m sorry I said it was stupid
vase. I really liked it...

She looks down at the broken vase on the ground.

AISHA (CONT’D)
...When it was still in one piece.

JAMES
That’s alright. Accidents happen.

He checks the clock.

JAMES (CONT’D)
Well, I’d say that’s about enough
time. You can go now.

Aisha doesn’t move from her seat.

AISHA
Grandpa... Do you have any more
stories of you and Gamma?

James puts his down his book and motions for Aisha to come
closer. A big smile appears on his face as she pulls her
chair closer to him.

JAMES
Now, which story do you wanna hear?
